CapSU hosts SCUAA VI Olympics

Capiz State University (CapSU) hosted the 2015 Regional State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association Olympics, Dec. 18-23.
Eleven member higher education institutions (HEI’s) of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges in Region 6 (PASUC VI) participated in this annual sports gathering.
The participating HEI’s were Aklan State University, Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Central Philippines State University, Guimaras State College, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Iloilo State College of Fisheries, Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College, Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology, University of Antique, West Visayas State University, and Capiz State University.
Athletes competed in different individual and group events which included athletics, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, futsal, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, tae-kwon-do, volleyball, beach volleyball, pencak silat, and Latin and modern dance sports.
The games took off with a parade around Roxas City finishing at Villareal Stadium where the opening ceremony was held.
The Villareal Stadium was also the venue for most events like athletics, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer football, and swimming.
Certain venues were also identified for the other events.
After the five-day contention, West Visayas State University (WVSU) from Iloilo City was declared champion garnering 76 gold, 56 silver and 62 bronze medals.
Despite the home court advantage, CapSU just finished in fifth place with 28 gold, 28 silver and 42 bronze medals.
The SCUAA Olympics was the second PASUC VI event hosted by CapSU this year.
Last Nov. 3-6, it also hosted the PASUC VI Culture and the Arts Festival with the same participating HEI’s.
The hosting of these two events was accepted by CapSU as another achievement in the term of Dr. Editha L. Magallanes, CapSU President, who will be retiring in July 2016.
