Capiz State University-Mambusao Satellite College joins the Youth Proyekto Philippines-Youth Environment Support tree planting activity, Sept. 22, in Brgy. Burias, Mambusao, Capiz.
The faculty and staff together with the officers of Supreme Student Council (SSC) and Future Leaders of the Philippines (FLP) planted narra and acacia seedlings at the vacant land owned by one of the campus employees, Mr. Herman Baranda.
Prior to this, the officers of the same organizations conducted a tree planting activity on July 26 in observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month.
They planted seedlings along the road at the back of the Graduate School building. This area used to be planted with mahogany trees but because of the road widening project of the government, the trees were cut down.
The students planted seedlings on the vacant space on the side of the road as replacements for the trees that were removed.
Being the biggest organizations in the campus, the SSC and FLP want to spearhead in initiating activities for the conservation and preservation of our environment.
“As SSC officers, we have responsibilities to our fellow students. But we have bigger responsibilities to our environment. We have to include in our action plan activities that concern our environment,” SSC President Ma. Victoria Valad-on shared.
“As student leaders, we look after the welfare of our fellow students. Likewise, as God’s people, we should be stewards of His creation,” FLP President Renanti Vista added.
Tree planting activity can help in climate change mitigation as trees absorb carbon dioxide, which is largely blamed for global warming.
