Guidance and counseling services office leads orientation program

For the students to know much about their school, the guidance and counseling services office spearheaded the conduct of the orientation program, Aug. 9, at the Gugma ni Castro gymnasium.
This annual activity is conducted to orient the students especially the freshmen and new students of the rules and regulations and services offered by the University.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, extended his gratitude to the students for choosing to study in CapSU Mambusao and he asked them to consider the school as their home and their instructors as second parents or older brothers and sisters.
Vitudazo also encouraged the students to treat one another as friends. He even requested to play the song “You’ve Got a Friend,” and enjoined everybody to sing.
The orientation proper commenced with Professor Virginia J. Magbanua, college secretary and quality assurance chair, acquainting the students with the historical background of the University and the Campus, vision, mission, goals and objectives, and quality policy.
The students met the personnel face-to-face when Ms. Elizabeth M. Magallanes, human resource management officer, called the faculty and staff one-by-one to come the stage for the students to recognize them.
Professor Lalaine E. Ricardo who chairs the Office of the Student Affairs (OSA), talked about student services and student discipline.
Ricardo emphasized that as members of the CapSU Mambusao community, students should obey school rules and policies, and perform their duties and responsibilities if they do not want to be subjected to disciplinary actions.
“If you do not want to be reprimanded, suspended or worst, expelled, just follow the rules and regulations,” Prof. Ricardo stressed out.
Taking charge of the busiest office in the Campus, Professor Meschel L. Marcos discussed the rules and regulations in the registrar’s office including admission policies, changing and dropping, and grades.
The research, intellectual property management and extension services were discussed by Professor Lecel O. Bobier, Professor Rhodora L. Ticar, and Professor Virginia P. Cabales, respectively.
Ms. Helen D. Arro and Professor Merlyn F. Filosofo tackled the library services and accounting services, respectively.
Professor Leo B. Pula talked about the Information Technology (IT) services and Freedom of Information (FOI) while Mr. Francis Carl A. Figarola relayed information concerning the medical and dental services.
Dr. Caster A. Kapunan and Professor Janice D. Ballera were tasked to inform the students of the socio-cultural and sports services.
Professor Freden S. Delgado acquainted the students with the publication services.
As adviser of the student publication, Delgado also took the opportunity to invite the students especially the freshmen to join the student publication.
“Many members of the editorial board graduated last April and there is a need to recruit new members,” Delgado expressed his concern.
Professor Olga L. Llanera, Supreme Student Council (SSC) adviser, enlightened the students with the requirements for accreditation of student organizations. Llanera stressed that for student organizations to be recognized in the Campus they must comply all the requirements expected of them.
Talking about canteen services was Ms. Jean B. Torre, Campus Business Affairs Office (CBAO) chair, while Mr. Siegfried L. BraƱa, tackled the security services and maintenance.
Knowing what to do in times of disaster like earthquake and fire was given emphasis by Professor Herman L. Baranda who discussed disaster risk reduction and management.
Baranda informed the students that the Campus conducts regular earthquake and fire drill to instill disaster preparedness among the populace of CapSU Mambusao.
In charge of the office that spearheaded the conduct of the orientation program, Professor Felyn Mae G. Yap chose to be the last speaker.
Yap, designated guidance counselor, concluded the series of talks with her presentation of the guidance and counseling services.
