The applicants take the written examination.

This academic year, nine new writers qualified for the editorial board after hurdling the written examinations and interview organized by Prof. Freden S. Delgado, publication chairman, and the current editorial staff.
During the welcome and orientation program on Aug. 13, Prof. Delgado was given the chance to talk about the Publication Services. He also announced the schedules of screening for the new writers.
Prof. Delgado encouraged students who have passion for writing and those who were writers in high school to join the publication.
Many members of the editorial board graduated last April and there was a need to recruit new members.
“Many positions in the editorial board are vacant and there is a need to fill them up. We have to work hard recruiting new members,” Prof. Delgado said.
The filing of application was on Aug. 13-20, written examinations on Aug. 23-24, and interview on Aug. 27.
Ten students showed interest to be part of the publication and filed an application.
The applicants took the written examinations for two days.
On the first day, they wrote opinion article and news article the following day.
The oral communication skills of the applicants were also tested in the interview.
Prof. Delgado and the current publication staff evaluated the articles of the applicants and comprised the panel during the interview.
For the applicants to qualify, they had to get an average rating of 80%.
Leandro De Juan, Rj Lou Felasol, John Jireh Hachuela, Keith Anthony Linan, Reca Lopez, Jean Oso, Rossele Mae Ponce, Clifford John Sunio, and Elcha Mae Villacapa luckily made it to the editorial board of The Courier.
The new writers have different reasons for joining the publication.
Some want to continue what they had started in high school while others who are inexperienced just want to try something new and discover their potential in writing.
But all of them committed to give their all-out support to the publication.
Prof. Delgado expressed his gratitude to these students who responded to his invitation.
“I am happy because my dilemma that the publication is undermanned is somehow solved. The nine new writers will now fill up the vacant positions in the editorial board,” he shared.
The new and incumbent members of the editorial staff will take their oath during the induction ceremonies on Sept. 13.
