Two weeks after losing in the vice presidential race of the Supreme Student Council (SSC), Arnel G. Barquilla redeemed himself after claiming the victory in the presidential race of the Future Leaders of the Philippines (FLP) during the online election held on July 12-14.
Barquilla of Youth Movement towards New Normal Party (YM2N’s) garnered 216 (56.5%) votes outscoring the Peace Accommodating Service and Heuristic Party standard bearer Nicole Clyde A. Lumbania who got only 166 votes (43.5%) based on the final and official results posted in the FLP-CAPSU Mambusao Facebook page.
Other newly elected FLP Officers were Samantha Shyane Nonato, vice president; Jay Ann Leal, secretary; Crissa Bruna, treasurer; Arboleda, Arboleda, auditor; Manilyn Valerio, P.R.O; Angeline Ocbeña, business manager; Shane Kyla Sapinoso, muse; and Leonel Bolido, sentinel.
According to Barquilla, it was a blessing in disguise that he lost in the vice presidential race of the SSC because he was meant for a higher position, but he admitted that he was hurt upon learning that he did not make it in the SSC.
“I was a bit hurt sang maperde ako sa SSC election. Siguro natural lang for human beings to feel this way if they fail. Pero naghagan-hagan ang ginabatyag ko because while scrolling my phone nakabaton ko message halin sa imo telling me nga magfile candidacy sa FLP kag magdalagan ako for president,” he shared.
Barquilla didn’t have second thoughts despite experiencing a loss. “So daw nagkalakas-loob man ko nga magfile na naman kay siling ko total naka-umpisa naman gid ko sa SSC gani padayunon ko nalang sa FLP,” he added.
“Gapasalamat gid ko sa fellow students ko nga nagsupport gid sa akon. Kung need ninyo bulig ko ari lang man ko kag ara ang mga upod ko sa FLP. Indi kamo magkahuya kay willing gid kami magpamati sa inyo,” Baquilla assured his fellow students.
Barquilla is the first BS Food Technology student elected to the post of FLP Mambusao Chapter president and he will be holding the position for the Academic Year 2021-2022.
