After failing to retain the What A Mess Acquaintance crown last year, the Bachelor of Arts Department succeeded in reclaiming the crown this year when Bachelor of Arts in English Language freshman Reynan James O. Lacupa astounded the jury with his performance and won their nod to be crowned WAMA 2021, Oct. 28.
The search for WAMA is a school’s tradition that highlights the annual acquaintance and welcome party.
Because of the pandemic, this year’s acquaintance party was still conducted virtually with the theme: “BULIGAY: The Key Towards Strengthening Friendship and Cultivating Connectedness and Unity among CAPSUnians Amidst Pandemic.”
In the virtual program, Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, shared his thoughts with the students on the essence of holding an acquaintance party.
“Acquaintance party is actually a sort of welcoming the new students especially the first year students and transferees, so you can make friends with your classmates and batch mates not only within your department but also in other departments,” Virtudazo said.
In this year’s search for WAMA, eight male students from the four degree programs accepted the challenge to be transformed to ‘women’ to give entertainment to their classmates and schoolmates and to bring honor to their respective departments. They were Clifford John Caballero, Reynan James Lacupa, Renzel Delfin, John Fritz Lizada, Ronel Oroceo, Jayheart Lorecha, Joe Mike Laurence and Glen De Asis.
The candidates impressed the judges and audience with their fabulous poses and walks in the production number, frontliner attire and Darna attire. They also showcased their talents and displayed their confidence in the interview.
Bagging most of the minor awards was Reynan James Lacupa of the AB Department. He was awarded the Best in Production Number, Best in Talent and Best in Darna Attire.
Computer Science Department bets John Fritz Lizada took the Best in Frontliner Attire and the People’s Choice Award, and Renzel Delfin won the Best in Interview.
Meanwhile, Glenn De Asis, Office Administration Department representative, was named Miss Photogenic.
Other winners of the major awards were Food Technology Department candidate Ronel Oroceo who was declared first runner-up, CS Department representatives, John Fritz Lizada, second runner-up; and Renzel Delfin, third runner-up.
Lacupa earned a spot in the roster of WAMA winners from the AB Department which now has eight crowns.
