The Himig Kalingawan Student Organization held a talent showcase titled “Tunog ng Lahi, Huni ng Pagkakaisa,” celebrating unity and cultural pride through music and performance at the CAPSU Mambusao Gymnasium, March 11.
The program opened with remarks from Himig Kalingawan adviser Dr. Janice Ballera, who commended the members, participants, and performers for their dedication to the event.
“I thank the members, participants, and performers for their dedication. Despite conflicting schedules, many students stayed late rehearsing to ensure their performances were polished and meaningful,” Dr. Ballera said.
Dr. Ballera also welcomed Mambusao Vice Mayor Richard Buenavista, who attended the event on behalf of Mayor Leodegario Labao Jr., who was unable to join due to a seminar.
In her message, she highlighted the significance of the event’s title and the role of music in bringing people together.
“Tunog kag Huni translates to sound and voice. It is more than just a concert; it is a celebration of our students’ creativity, a platform for them to share their stories, and a reminder that music has the unique ability to unite us as a whole,” she added.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Richard Buenavista expressed his appreciation for the invitation and reaffirmed his support for student-led initiatives.
“I can never say no to supporting student initiatives,” the Vice Mayor said.
He also emphasized the importance of music as an expression of culture.
“Ang musika isa ka mayad nga pamaagi para mapakita ang kultura kag abilidad sang isa ka Mambusaonon,” he emphasized.
The event featured a series of student performances categorized by genre, including instrumental solo numbers, OPM hits, P-pop performances, and a chorale presentation.
Dr. Ballera also delivered a special performance during the program.
Former KALPAG Choir president Diana Isabel Custodio also took the stage as one of the event’s highlight performers.
In her closing remarks, Dr. Ballera thanked the students for their cooperation and effort in preparing the program.
