Office of the Sports Services holds virtual clinic

With the theme “Sports Clinic: Key to the Continuity of Sportsmanship in the New Normal,” the Office of Sports Services of CAPSU Mambusao chaired by Prof. Janice Ballera conducted a virtual sports clinic, Oct. 4.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, mentioned that students should learn not only in academics but also in other fields. “Despite absence of face-to-face classes, the University still wants to teach the students not just in academics but also in other fields like sports and athletics,” he said. “Even if it is prohibited to conduct sport leagues or other sports events due to the restrictions of ITAF, but it is not prohibited to learn techniques and skills through this webinar," he added.
In the morning session, Ms. Elvie F. Celestial, MAT, a provincial and regional official in basketball, was the resource speaker. She discussed the nature of basketball, rules and regulations, history of basketball, common time violations and the classes of foul. She also shared her wisdom in sports which rooted from her experiences, “Each fundamental skill is different but they have a unified purpose in achieving success," she shared.
Dr. Rosipico F. Tupaz, a coach and a provincial and regional official in athletics was the resource speaker in the afternoon. From his talk, the participants learned that “track and field is consist of three (3) types of events: track, field and combined events."
He one-by-one discussed running, walking, jumping, throwing, and pentathlon. He introduced their respective equipment and gears used, the trainings and techniques, and the factors affecting the performance in each event.
During this pandemic, the usual sports activities conducted in the University like intramural and inter-campus meet are still on hold. But the Office of the Sports Services has initiated activities that bring students to other dimensions of sports services like virtual sports clinic.
