The Courier joins PIA Journ Talk Series 2021

Nine members of the editorial staff of The Courier, official student publication of CAPSU Mambusao, participated in the Philippine Information Agency Journ Talk Series slated Oct. 20-22.
Representing the publication were Donna Velez, Mae Anne Alipusan and Joice Florentino for Day 1 which tackled DEVCOM: Relevance in Campus Journalism During Pandemic Time, news writing, feature writing, editorial/opinion writing and copy reading.
Comprising the pool of PIA Journ Talkers for Day 1 were Elsa Subong, a freelance Communications & Research Consultant who talked on DEVCOM: Relevance in Campus Journalism During Pandemic Time. Eric Loretizo, a seasoned Media and Public Relations Specialist was the resource person on News Writing and Feature Writing. Francis Allan Angelo, editor-in-chief of Daily Guardian and former president of Iloilo Press Club shared his knowledge on Editorial/Opinion Writing and Copy Reading.
On Day 2, Mary Glidyl Nuñez, RJ Lou Felasol and Aprilrose Cerezo learned the ropes of writing for science and technology, culture and the arts, publishing online, page design and lay-out, and data visualization techniques on e-publication/page design and lay-out, and trends on journalism and social media.
Participants in Day 2 learned from subject matter experts composed of Alicia Sol Salazar, regional information officer of the Department of Science and Technology who shared insights on writing for Science and Technology. Prof. Tito Genova Valiente, a respected film and art critic and a Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino talked on the beauty and the creative process on Writing for Culture and the Arts. Engineer cum Graphic Artist Ray Adrian Macalalag expounded on the trends on Publishing Online, Page Design and Lay-out and with Data Visualization Techniques on his topic E-Publication/Page Design and Lay-out. Digital strategists duo Marco Duenas and Alfred Lucot, both having advertising and Facebook work experiences shared trends on Journalin and Social Media.
Broadcasting, sports writing, and photojournalism were the topics featured on Day 3 attended by Steffany Rufino, John Jireh Hachuela and Joey Luces.
The final day of the webinar series brought a power house battery of speakers composed of Henni Espinosa, a three-time Emmy Award-winning broadcast journalist brings inspiration on her topic Broadcasting and how she excelled in the industry, globally. Cedelf Tupas, a former sports writer of the Philippine Daily Inquirer who now heads the Broadcast and Production of the Philippine Football Federation and current chief communications officer of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines saw action inside the virtual floor on his topic Sports Writing. Aeson Baldevia, a multi-disciplinary artist whose works were showcased in international scene in Switzerland, Belgium, London, Japan, South Korea among others shared his eye on photography and journalism during his talk on Photojournalism.
Aside from the webinar, the participants also took part in the workshop. Participants whose works stood out were given recognition by the PIA. Mary Glidyl P. Nuñez, editor-in-chief of The Courier, was recognized as one of the Promising in Social Media Writing and Social Media Content.
