Capiz State University-Mambusao Satellite College through the Guidance and Counseling Office headed by Prof. Ma. Relie V. Aguilos, guidance counselor, conducted a virtual seminar on self-care and coping strategies in times of pandemic, Jan. 27.
A hundred of participants composed of students and teachers joined the webinar because of its timeliness and relevance to the current situation. They believed that the information they would get from the webinar could help them a lot.
As usual, Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, started off the activity with his opening remarks and expressed his gratitude to the resource speaker for accepting the invitation.
“It’s an honor that our invitation was accepted by the most benevolent speaker from CAPSU Sigma. Surely, his talk will help many students and us, the faculty and staff, in this time of pandemic,” Dr. Virtudazo said.
Resource speaker Prof. Jumar Q. Apoyo, MSGC, RGC, guidance counselor of CAPSU Sigma Satellite College, shared information which could help a lot those who are struggling mentally and emotionally during this pandemic.
His manner of presentation was interactive. During his talk, he flashed pictures on the screen and asked some questions about them to encourage active participation and to make the atmosphere engaging.
Being a mental health advocate, Prof. Apoyo shared his expertise on mental health matters. Discovering the amazing effects of embracing weaknesses and mental hygiene strategies highlighted his discussion.
“Our weaknesses would lead us to exploration of more opportunities that will enable us to grow. When we assess ourselves as a flawed person, we'll start loving and respecting ourselves. We are able to view others positively as opposed to feeling threatened by them,” he shared.
After listening to the discussion, the participants were asked to share their takeaways from the webinar. Prof. Felyn Mae G. Yap, former guidance counselor designate, volunteered to be the first one to share her takeaway.
Holding this webinar only proves that the Guidance and Counseling Office never stops to deliver its services to the students and also to the teachers despite school closure due to pandemic.
