The Supreme Student Council (SSC) led by Elcha Mae J. Villacapa, SSC president and Prof. Olga L. Llanera, SSC adviser, organized a student assembly on March 31, 2022 via Zoom.
This virtual gathering was arranged to address the concerns of the students and give them updates on the accomplishments and plans of the organization and the school in general.
In his opening remarks, SSC Vice President RJ Lou G. Felasol enjoined his fellow students to actively take part in different school activities even though virtual. He also encouraged them to participate in the open forum and grab the opportunity to have a dialogue with the satellite college director.
“Participate in the school activities, find your purpose and I am sure you are purposely made to inspire others. May you enjoy and feel free to open up your worries with us in this student assembly. It is our chance to have our voice heard by others,” he said.
Among the agenda taken up during the assembly included reading of minutes of the previous student assembly, presentation of financial reports for A.Y. 2021-2022 and the presentation of SSC status including the accomplishments, remaining activities, completed projects and proposed projects.
In the open forum, students were given the chance to raise their concerns to Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director.
A graduating student eagerly asked the satellite college director if their upcoming graduation ceremonies would be face to face.
“We are still not sure if face-to-face graduation will be pushed through since we still have to wait for the updates coming from the Academic Council and Board of Regents,” he directly answered.
Virtudazo also gave updates on the school’s preparation for possible face-to-face classes in the Academic Year 2022-2023.
“For the limited face-to-face classes next school year, the University is already preparing the classrooms and the laboratories. Only fully vaccinated students will be allowed to attend their classes and each classroom will have a maximum capacity of 20 students only. Big classes will be divided into sections,” the school head explained to address the main concern of most students who are eager to attend in person classes.
Other questions were related to grading system, medical requirements of enrollees, facilities and the SSC organization.
A student who noticed that there are officers who do not participate in school activities asked what must be kept in mind by the officers who are in the position.
As the SSC adviser, Llanera took the floor to answer the student’s query.
“If you want to become a leader, you should be willing to be trained and you have the commitment to serve your fellow students,” she emphasized.
After all the questions raised by the students were addressed, Ronaldo Norico, BSFT representative, formally brought the assembly to a close with his closing remarks.
Student assembly is an annual activity of the SSC that gives the students the chance to reach out to the administration, faculty and staff for matters that affect their student life.
