Sales and Baclig interview Hilapad, BSFT program coordinator.

Two members of the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Food Technology and a representative from the Professional Regulation Commission-Region VI visited CAPSU Mambusao Satellite College to evaluate the compliance of the Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (BSFT) program, July 28, 2022.
Hon. Anthony C. Sales, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Director of Region XI and at the same time President of the PRB of Food Technology, headed the inspection and evaluating team.
Joining Sales were Hon. Remedios V. Baclig, a member of the PRB of Food Technology, and Ms. Salome Preciosa G. Daymoto, Supervising Professional Regulation Officer of PRC Region VI.
According to Sales, the purpose of the monitoring was to check the compliance of the BSFT program offered by the Campus with the policies, standards and guidelines for BS Food Technology.
Sales shared their findings in the monitoring they conducted in other institutions offering the BSFT program. He felt sad that only six schools passed for the said program.
So far, CAPSU Mambusao Satellite College was the 27th higher education institution offering BSFT that they visited.
Another purpose of the evaluation was to check the compliance of the program with the professional, technical and ethical standards set forth by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
He mentioned that food technologists play an important role in ensuring that foods sold in the market comply with the regulatory and market requirements.
Finally, the team also wanted to find out the program’s compliance with all other statutory requirements and occupational safety and health standards.
Sales shared the possible consequences just in case the program is non-compliant.Graduates might not be allowed to take the board exam which would not give them the chance to become registered food technologists or worse, closure of the program.
Baclig, on the hand, gave an overview of the process of conducting the evaluation.
The team first viewed an audio-visual presentation about the BSFT program. Ocular inspection of the facilities, laboratories and equipment then followed. They also visited the library to check the collection of references used for the core subjects in the program.
An interview with the core faculty members was also conducted.
The team then had a closed-door deliberation. They consolidated their findings and crafted recommendations for non-compliant areas.
During the presentation of the findings, most of the recommendations were on laboratories. However, the Campus is given a period of one year to procure the equipment required in the laboratories.
The administration is committed to comply with the monitoring team's recommendations to make sure that the BSFT program is in place and capable of producing quality graduates.
DOST and CHED regional offices will be furnished with the findings of the evaluation.
