The Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Capiz State University-Mambusao Satellite College joined in the Pabasa para sa Eskwela, a Brigada Eskwela activity of Mambusao East National High School (MENHS) on August 16, 2022.
For the past years, SSC has been actively involved in off-campus activities that strengthen the value of camaraderie, volunteerism and oneness. This year's chosen school was the Mambusao East National High School in Brgy. Atiplo, Mambusao, Capiz.
Pabasa para sa Eskwela is one of the components of Brigada Eskwela 2022 with the theme, "Tugon sa Hamon ng Ligtas na Balik-aral." This activity aims to help Filipino children to enhance their reading skills and foster a genuine love for reading to become functionally literate.
The MENHS Brigada Pagbasa literacy activity was participated in by different stakeholders namely, CAPSU Mambusao SSC officers led by SSC President Joey O. Luces, Mambusao PNP headed by PCPL JC Ombega and PCPL Ronilo Ditarro, Teacher-applicants, MENHS faculty and staff, Youth volunteers, parents and Grade 7 students who were beneficiaries of the said activity.
In her opening remarks, Officer-in-Charge Mrs. Rosalie Jaguio expressed her delight and gratitude to all the volunteers and donors. She also elaborated on the significance of the Pabasa para sa Eskwela and how the students can benefit from it.
According to Jaguio, Brigada Pagbasa literacy activity is a big help for the students particularly the Grade 7 learners. Through this activity, teachers can identify the reading level of the learners and what kind of strategies or techniques will be employed on them.
"Pabasa para sa Eskwela activity is not only to diagnose the learner's difficulty in reading but also to help them embrace the importance of reading and comprehension," she added.
Volunteers facilitated different activities such as a video presentation about the value of reading, reading in unison, spelling with a twist, word jumble and group reading.
Luces discussed the significance of reading based on the video presentation. He said that learning how to read is essential for one's growth and has to be honed to become successful in life.
"Kabudlay sang kabuhi kun illiterate kita kay kun indi ka kabalo magbasa mabudlayan man kita mag-intindi sang mga bagay-bagay. Gani dapat magtinguha kamo nga mag-antigu kay magamit niyo gid dya sa pang-adlaw-adlaw nga pangabuhi," Luces said.
Aside from being volunteers, the SSC officers donated 42 sets of school supplies to Grade 7 learners. A set includes an envelope, paper, notebook and pen.
Ms. Joan S. Arboleda, SSC vice president, said that being a volunteer is such a remarkable experience as the SSC of CAPSU Mambusao has done something impactful to the life of students.
"For someone who likes to volunteer, first, think that you are going to have fun. The best part is the experience. I was a part of that, I was one of the people who made the children happy. What we did there was an unforgettable experience," Arboleda shared.
In her closing remarks, Brigada Pagbasa Coordinator Ms. Yrrah Kathleen Laurilla expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all the sponsors and volunteers. She acknowledged the significant contributions of everyone who took part in this endeavor.
