SSC, FLP organize 1st face-to-face leadership training this A.Y. 2022-2023

The Supreme Student Council (SSC) together with the Future Leaders of the Philippines (FLP) conducted the first ever face-to-face leadership training for this school year titled: "Learn and Lead: A Training Workshop for Student Leaders (Series 1)," Sept. 19.
SSC and FLP have the mission to enhance the abilities of student leaders in our campus for them to unfold their leadership skills and discover their hidden abilities as young leaders.
This one-day training workshop aimed to provide the participants with knowledge and skills to work in a team setting, facilitate meetings, improve communication among others.
Thirty-nine selected officers from the Supreme Student Council, Future Leaders of the Philippines, Computer Science Society, Office Administration Society, Society of Arts Students, TESG-GO, Philippine Assocation of Food Technologists Students Chapter, Kalingawan Performing Arts Group, and governors and secretaries from the four departments took part in this training.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, emphasized the attributes of a leader which are confidence, commitment, willingness to learn, and they must possess honesty, integrity and accountability.
Dr. Virtudazo echoed what Vince Lombardi said that “Leaders are made, they are not born.”
"Leaders are not born, they are made. And you are made," said Dr. Virtudazo referring to the student leaders who participated in the training.
To recognize the participants, SSC President Joey O. Luces presented the delegates according to the organizations they represented.
Before the training proper, Prof. Olga L. Llanera, SSC adviser, gave an orientation and safety briefing for a smooth-sailing conduct of the activity.

Prof. Felyn Mae G. Yap, TESG-SO adviser and scholarship coordinator, shared her knowledge in managing effective meetings.
For the workshop, Prof. Yap grouped the officers and tasked them to roleplay a meeting following the parliamentary procedure.
Prof. Michelle L. Espartero, student organizations and activities coordinator, was also present to discuss the requirements that every organization needs to comply with to be recognized in the campus.
In the afternoon session, Prof. Freden S. Delgado, FLP and publication adviser, taught the participants how to make a resolution. He provided some samples of resolution for them to see how they are written.
In the workshop, Prof. Delgado gave some situations to which the participants would make a resolution. They were then asked to present their outputs for critiquing.
Some participant gave their impressions and their takeaways from the training. They all expressed their gratitude for the opportunity given to them to participate in the training.
They said that the learnings that they acquired would really help them in performing their job as officers.

Mr. RJ Lou G. Felasol, FLP representative, specially thanked the organizers for letting them wear corporate attire and gathering them in an air-conditioned venue.
In closing, Prof. Lalaine E. Ricardo, student affairs and services chairperson, expressed delight seeing the eagerness of the students to learn and the enthusiasm of being student leaders in the campus.
She also shared with the participants that as leaders they need to have influence on their constituents.
"Being a leader actually is not only about how you manage or lead your people but somehow how you influence your people," Prof. Ricardo said.
Dr. Virtudazo also encouraged them to share what they have learned in their community.
