After two years of holding the Arts Day virtually due to pandemic, the Bachelor of Arts in English Language (BAEL) students celebrated their in-person 11th Arts Day in the Campus today, February 28.
The occasion coincides with the country’s annual celebration of National Arts Month in the month of February with this year’s theme “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing.”
During the opening program, Satellite College Director Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo in his inspirational message shared the words of Edgar Degas that “Art is not what you see but what you make others see.”
Dr. Virtudazo said that Arts Day celebration is important to BAEL students because it is venue for them to showcase their talents and skills.
He also enlightened them that with their talents and skills, they can apply to different jobs after they graduate.
He encouraged students of CAPSU Mambusao to develop their talents, to let other people see their talents.
He believes that their talents can bring them to a bright future because being artistic is a plus factor for employment.
Finally, Dr. Vitudazo admonished the students to share the artists within them.
To further enlighten the participants of the importance of arts, Mr. Kenneth John L. Villorente, Municipal Tourism Officer Designate of Mambusao, Capiz, was invited to be the keynote speaker.
However, he just sent a representative to deliver his message because he is presently attending a three-day seminar conducted by the Department of Tourism, Region VI.
Villorente noted that February is a significant month of the year as far as arts is concerned.
“This is a special time of the year when we come together to recognize the important role that arts plays in our lives and in our communities,” his message read.
According to him, “arts has the power to inspire, to challenge, to heal, and to bring people together.”
He highlighted the different forms of arts as means of self-expression and connecting with others.
“Through music, dance, theater, literature, film and the visual arts, we are able to express ourselves, share our stories, and connect with others on deeper level,” his message further read.
He also remembered the late Dr. Caster A. Kapunan who was very enthusiastic in culture and the arts.
“When we have programs and activities sa aton banwang pinalanggang Mambusao, ara guid siya to support and participate sa aton mga aktibidadis,” he also stated in his speech.
To end his message, Villorente encouraged everyone to “take this moment to celebrate the arts, to embrace the power of creativity and imagination, and to join together in a spirit of joy, inspiration, and community.”
To celebrate and share their artistic skills and talents, BAEL students entertained the spectators with a variety of numbers in music, dance and acting.
As an opening number, they presented festival dances from their chosen festivals in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Others then rendered songs, performed dance and presented a play.
BAEL students also performed their traditional unity dance joined by the faculty, staff, students and guests.
The morning session concluded with the closing remarks of Prof. Lalaine E. Ricardo, Student Affairs and Services chairperson.
Prof. Ricardo underscored February as National Arts Month and it is "expected that BAEL students are going to celebrate their Arts Day to showcase their talents and skills."
In the afternoon, AB English alumni shared their knowledge with their ‘ka-major’ during the seminar-workshop.
Mr. Renanti O. Vista, from Class of 2019, who is currently working at Bombo Radyo Philippines-Roxas, talked on broadcasting, specifically on news writing and reporting.
Meanwhile, Mr. Redjie A. Norba, from Class of 2017, who is a freelancer and real estate marketing consultant based in Cebu, tackled advertising in a recorded video which was played during the seminar-workshop.
The awarding of prizes to the winners which included certificates and cash prizes then followed.
