Capiz State University-Mambusao Satellite College through the Guidance and Counselling Office conducted a special orientation program, February 8, 2023.
The program aimed to re-orient the students of the policies, rules and regulations implemented in the University and to provide them the opportunity familiarize themselves with the members of the faculty and non-teaching staff of the Campus.
This was the first time after more than two years that the students gathered at the campus gymnasium to attend the orientation program.
Orientation program in the previous semesters since Academic Year 2020-2021 until 1st semester of the current school year was conducted virtually because of the pandemic.
Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, in his welcome remarks expressed his delight to see a big gathering of students in the campus.
Dr. Virtudazo was glad to have an in-person orientation program because even though there was virtual orientation in the past, only few students cared to watch them in their mobile devices.
He stressed the importance of knowing the policies and regulations of the school.
“Students need to be oriented of the policies, rules and regulations of the University,” Dr. Virtudazo said.
He also commended the students for wearing their uniform. He urged the students to listen carefully and encouraged them to raise questions during the open forum.
Ms. Elizabeth M. Magallanes, HRMO, introduced the University key officials and the academic and non-academic personnel of the Campus.
Prof. Meschel L. Marcos, college registrar, discussed the rules and regulations of the Registrar's Office as well as the services that are offered to the students. She also mentioned the requirements that are needed for the different transactions in the office.
Prof. Lalaine E. Ricardo, student affairs and services chairperson, tackled the different student services under her office.
Prof. Ricardo also discussed the prescribed school uniform, the rights and responsibilities of the students, student discipline, violations and their corresponding penalties, and grounds for dismissal and expulsion.
In the afternoon, Ms. Ruby Lyn A. ViƱas, school librarian, enlightened the students with the library rules and regulations and the different services students can avail from the library.
Prof. Michelle L. Espartero, student organizations coordinator, tackled the rules and regulations for student organizations, and the process on how to put up, register and accredit student organizations.
Ms. Ma. Relie V. Aguilos, designated guidance counselor, explained the functions of her office.
Mr. Francis Carl Figarola, school nurse, discussed the medical and dental services offered in the Campus.
He encouraged the students to take part in the upcoming blood-letting activity or 'ilus-dugo' organized by his office.
Prof. Herman L. Baranda, DRRM/NSTP coordinator, spread awareness on natural and human-made calamities, and the different types of disasters and factors to consider for disaster management.
Dr. Janice D. Ballera discussed the services of the three offices she handles namely, sports, socio-cultural and housing.
The discussion was followed by an open forum moderated by Prof. Felyn Mae G. Yap.
Prof. Ricardo ended the orientation program with her closing remarks where she said, "I hope that the purpose of having this orientation, na-meet naton, na-enlighten kamo and I am hoping for a harmonious relationship and peaceful environment in our Campus."
Students, especially the freshmen, found the conduct of an in-person orientation program this semester helpful to them.
"Importante yung orientation dahil madami kaming natutunan sa kung ano ang mga policies at services na ino-offer ng CAPSU sa aming mga students at para maging pamilyar na din kami sa mga teachers," Charlene Arendaying, BAEL-1 student, shared.
("The orientation is important because we learned a lot about policies and the services that CAPSU offers to us and for us to be familiar with the teachers.")
"As a 4th year student, para sa akin importante yung orientation na ‘to para maalala ulit namin ang mga patakaran ng eskwelahan. At dapat talaga ay sundin ng mga estudyante yung mga patakaran para umunlad ang ating eskwelahan," Rena Mae Lopez, BSOA-4B, said.
(As a 4th year student, for me this orientation is important so that we can recall the rules of the school. And the students should follow the rules for our school to progress".)
The program ended with the singing of the CAPSU March.
