Kalingawan Performing Arts Group (KALPAG) of CAPSU Mambusao staged a cultural show dubbed “Pabidahay 2023” at the campus gymnasium, March 2, to close the National Arts Month celebration.
The show unveiled the talents of CAPSU Mambusao students in various fields of performing arts as it adopted the theme of this year’s National Arts Month celebration, “Ani ng Sining, Bunga ng Galing.”
KALPAG choral group opened the show by leading the singing of the invocation, National Anthem and Capiz Hymn.
Dr. Adelfo Z. Virtudazo, satellite college director, on his opening remarks commended the initiative and creativity of KALPAG, now led by Dr. Janice D. Ballera.
Dr. Virtudazo shared some insights about the importance of attitude.
“Attitude is the best asset in life. In order to achieve greatness, attitude must come first,” he said.
He encouraged the students to show their talent because no one will notice it if they keep it hidden.
The series of performances kicked off with the duet of Nhiel Salvador Navarra and Dianna Ysabelle Custodio, singing “Hinahanap-hanap Kita” by Daniel Padilla.
KALPAG dancers were in the groove in their powerful hip-hop performance making the audience enjoy their dynamic moves.
Kin Sabala, a second-place winner during the University’s culture and the arts festival last January, amused the spectators with his spoken poetry.
Instrumentalists Jericho Laurilla and Hervin Arcibal Jr. not only entertained the crowd with their soothing voice but also with their dexterity in playing the guitar.
Arcibal sang his original composition entitled “Di Ka Kawalan” which tells the story of a boy who was left by his girlfriend but has no regrets losing her.
From dancing to a fast-beat music, KALPAG dancers flaunted their gracefulness and charm in their interpretation of “Alitaptap,” a Philippine folk dance.
From performing arts, BAEL 1 students Kin Sabala, Gino Monahan, Ma. Angelica Golez, Shane Villarico and Charlene Arendaying enthralled the audience with their versatile voice in radio drama about the aftermath of the pandemic and pursuing one’s dream.
With their refined hands and feet movements, Elaine Mae Cerilo, Ria De Pedro, Gezel Lunas and Kresty Mea Dela Cruz performed a contemporary dance with Billie Eilish’s “I Don’t Wanna be You Anymore.”
The rest of the performances focused on vocal calisthenics where performers showed off their vocal power in different genres like pop, p-pop and classical.
Kenneth Rufino and Camela Ocado rendered pop songs while Selwyn Bugna and Irish Kaye Vigo performed the Ilonggo classic “O Bulak” and “Ahay Kalisod,” respectively.
As talented as the KALPAG members, their adviser Dr. Janice D. Ballera belted out Lady Gaga’s country soft rock “Always Remember Us This Way” that delighted the listeners.
But the show stealer of the day was the performance of the P-pop groups particularly by the boy group.
The crowd roared when the “boys next door” went down the stage, offered flowers to some girls and brought them on stage. KALPAG dancers Leonel Bolido, Realyn Peraira, Lance Jewel Jago, Mercy Llagas, Charlie Lacorte and Ivy Bautista showcased agility and flexibility in dance sports mentored by the new PE instructor, Miss Princess Sangrones.
Being a dance sports enthusiast, Miss Princess Sangrones wowed the audience with an intense showmanship of energy and quickness in her own performance together with her partner, Mr. Anjo Bonsato.
Prof. Lalaine L. Ricardo, SAS coordinator, in her closing remarks, encouraged other students to also expose their talents and abilities.
“Students of CAPSU MSC have talents beyond our expectations. If you have talent, you are free to show us and the world what you have,” she said.
Students at CAPSU should not only be confined inside classroom but they should also enjoy other activities.
“CAPSU is not all about classroom activities. But we can also take a break sometimes and enjoy a show like this. Maybe we could have CAPSU Got Talent!” Prof. Ricardo added.
She congratulated the Socio-cultural Affairs Office, KALPAG performers, Dr. Janice D. Ballera and Miss Princess Sangrones for a job well done.
The cultural show ended with the unity dance where faculty, staff, students and visitors danced with the KALPAG members.
