NEWS: BAEL, KALPAG lead 12th Arts Day celebration

KalPAG members and BAEL students amaze the audience with their spectacular performances in a show dubbed as "Pasundayag 2024."

Capiz State University Mambusao Satellite College culminated the National Arts Month with the 12th Arts Day celebration spearheaded by the Bachelor of Arts in English Language (BAEL) Department (BAEL) in cooperation with the Kalingawan Performing Arts Group (KALPAG), February 29-March 1.
The two-day event showcased the diverse talents and skills of the students, highlighting the theme "Ani ng Sining, Bayang Malikhain," which underscores the transformative power of creativity and the unifying nature of the arts across cultures.
The celebration kicked off with various competitions including declamation, spoken poetry, essay and news writing, and painting, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their literary and artistic prowess, which were conducted a day before the formal opening.
During the opening program, Dr. Maria Aurora G. Victoriano, BAEL program coordinator, underscored the significance of the arts beyond mere entertainment, emphasizing its role as a reflection of society's creativity and imagination. She expressed pride in the students' commitment and support evident in their work.
"This Arts Day celebration is a reminder that the arts are not merely a form of entertainment but a profound reflection of our society's creativity and imagination. The artworks and performances you are about to witness are a testament of students' passion and dedication," Dr, Victoriano said.
Meanwhile, Ms. Icyll F. Luces, Tourism Officer of the municipality of Jamindan, graced the occasion as guest speaker.
Ms. Luces highlighted the rich tapestry of artistic expressions in the Philippines, stemming from its multicultural heritage, indigenous influences, colonial history, and contemporary creativity.
Ms. Luces said that the diversity in artistic expression helps the people to showcase how creative individuals are and above all, how people appreciate the power of arts that transcend borders.
The opening program also featured captivating performances of songs, dances, and drama.
To cap off the morning activity , Dr. Lalaine E. Ricardo, Student Affairs Services (SAS) coordinator, in her closing remarks reflected on the evolution of the Arts Day celebration, noting the remarkable growth and improvement driven by the students' spectacular performances.
"Daw kasan-o lang, kadasig lang sang panahon, ngara ika-12 year na nga ginacelebrate and Arts Day... and I witnessed how Arts shows the hidden talents and skills of the students," remarked Dr. Ricardo.
In the afternoon, KALPAG showcased the various talents of their members in "Pasundayag 2024," a festival of talents featuring performances by KALPAG and BAEL students spanning various genres of dance, music, and drama.
On the second day, students convened for a training-workshop on English in an Online World- a session that provided participants with invaluable insights about teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) in an online environment.
Led by Ms. Sherlyn Mae N. Francisco, a distinguished BAEL alumna, the workshop delved into effective methodologies and best practices that an ESL teacher should observe.
Drawing from her experience, Ms. Francisco shared practical teaching styles that can be applied to different nationalities, including Vietnamese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and clients from European countries.
Following the interactive discussion, all participants underwent a workshop where they had the opportunity to have a role play on actual teaching with Ms. Sherlyn acting as a student.
This year’s Arts Day celebration underscores the thriving spirit of creativity at Capiz State University Mambusao Satellite College, inspiring individuals to explore new realms of imagination, innovation, and collaboration.
