Editor-in-Chief Kin F. Sabala and eight other members of the editorial board of The Courier publication upgraded their journalistic skills by participating in The Capiz Times journalism workshop, Oct. 24-25, at the Hall of Governors, Capiz Provincial Capitol, Roxas City.
The workshop with the theme “Truth and Accuracy are Important Factors in Journalism” highlighted The Capiz Times Publishing’s celebration of its 43rd Founding Anniversary.
During the two-day workshop, participants were trained on news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, copy writing, headline writing, editorial cartooning, photojournalism, and lay outing.
Majority of the participants were campus journalists from the different publications of Capiz State University (CAPSU).
A few participants came from Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion and St. John College of Roxas City.
The participants from CAPSU Mambusao Satellite College included Kin F. Sabala, Charlene L. Arendaying, Aslen G. Caharop, Rigel Kent D. Delfin, Angelo L. Andrada, Jhon Kurt D. Tapigngan, Ralph Anthony O. Olano, Leianne Grace Dianne V. Asuro, and Marlita Mae Tolentino.
They were accompanied by their publication adviser, Prof. Freden S. Delgado.
After the presentation of every topic, participants were required to come up with their outputs where top three were given recognition and awards on the last day.
Three of The Courier staff members clinched awards led by Sabala who took 1st place in news writing.
Arendaying and Delfin secured 3rd places in feature writing and news writing, respectively.
Sabala just added another distinction to his name after claiming the Promising in Feature Writing award in the PIA Journ Talk Series 2024 last month and 2nd place both in essay writing and spoken poetry just this Oct. 2-4 in the 4th International Convention on Student Affairs and Services in Baguio City.
