Over 60 units of blood were collected from volunteers composed of students and non-CAPSUnian donors during a bloodletting activity held at CAPSU Mambusao gymnasium, Oct. 2.
The activity organized by the Office of the Medical, Dental and Disability Services Office with the support of the Student Affairs and Services, Supreme Student Council, Future Leaders of the Philippines, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management in cooperation with the Philippine Red Cross-Capiz Chapter and Rural Health Unit of Mambusao saw a strong turnout of both CAPSU Mambusao populace and community members eager to contribute to saving lives.
This event was a way to raise awareness about the importance of regular blood donations. The collected blood will be used to treat patients suffering from various medical conditions, including dengue, anemia, and other blood disorders.
The event was a huge success as volunteer students from various departments, along with members of the local community, participated as donors.
“I feel good knowing my blood will flow through the veins of other sick people who need it. My conscience is clear, and I will sleep like a baby knowing I’ve helped. This is my last donation for now, but I’m proud to have contributed.‘Kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan!’” said Jed Chen, a 2nd year BS Computer Science student, expressing his motivation for donating.
Louilllyn Dorimon, a regular blood donor from Maralag, Mambusao, Capiz, shared his joy in reaching his 15th blood donation milestone.
"This is my 15th time donating, and I’m happy to do it. Through this donation, I can help others, especially those who need blood,” Dorimon shared speaking in the dialect.
Francis Carl A. Figarola, CAPSU Mambusao school nurse, highlighted the urgency of the blood drive, especially in light of the recent surge in dengue cases.
“Ang purpose sini [is] para [makabulig sa gakinahanglan kay] ang mga kaso sang dengue subong grabe gid. And hospitals grabe ang need nila sa dugo. Ang dugo sang mga naga-donate subong daku gid nga bulig para sa mga gakinahanghalan nga hospitals. Sa mga students nga naga-donate, … gabaylo ila dugo, naga-nami ila pamatyagan kag mangin-healthy man sila kay after 24 hours balik naman ang dugo nila,” Figarola said.
The Philippine Red Cross-Capiz Chapter were thrilled with the turnout and the generosity of the donors.
The success of the bloodletting activity exemplifies the strong sense of community spirit and compassion within CAPSU Mambusao and the surrounding area. It is a testament to the willingness of both students, teachers and community members to give back and contribute to a cause that truly impacts lives.
