The Capiz Provincial Police Office conducted an anti-illegal drugs and anti-criminality symposium in the campus, January 30.
The symposium began with an opening prayer led by P/Cpl. Michael P. Belonio, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
Student Affairs and Services Chairperson Dr. Lalaine E. Ricardo delivered the welcome remarks giving a preview of what students would learn from the symposium.
"The symposium will provide practical information on Republic Act 9165 and relevant safety measures," Dr. Ricardo said.
The first speaker, P/Lt. Col. Efren B. Yu-Ing, presented a comprehensive overview of RA 9165, including its legal framework, penalties, the roles of families and schools in its enforcement in the Capiz Province, and the importance of readily available emergency hotlines.
Following the legal overview, P/Pat. Rojie Reil B. Salazar offered practical crime prevention strategies to enhance personal safety and contribute to a safer environment for individuals and communities.
P/Col. Roline O. Digan tackled the consequences of illegal drug use on individuals, families, and communities, highlighting the urgent need for prevention and intervention.
Having this symposium, students were able to gain insights how to become responsible citizens.
"As a student, I found the anti-Illegal drugs and anti-criminality symposium very insightful. It highlighted the dangers of substance abuse and crime, inspiring me to make responsible choices and actively promote a safe, drug-free community," said Jennifer Laguing, a BSFT student.
"The symposium showed me how stress and anxiety can lead people to drugs and alcohol. It's important to choose friends who don't push you to try those things. I learned why people use drugs and how it connects to crime, plus I got some great tips on staying safe and reporting crimes," shared Stephen Lavado, a BSCS student.
Concluding the symposium, DRRM Chairperson Dr. June Rey I. Garbosa delivered closing remarks stressing the vital role of citizens in fighting drug abuse and crime.
