In a move to further enhance its academic offerings and address the growing demand for tech-based education, Capiz State University (CAPSU)-Mambusao Satellite College conducted a consultative meeting on the proposed offering of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program, May 23.
Dr. Ramy Lloyd L. Lotilla, satellite college director, welcomed attendees with his opening remarks, highlighting the University’s commitment to advancing relevant and industry-driven programs in response to regional and national needs.
“This meeting is a valuable opportunity for us to engage in a meaningful dialogue to share insights, align perspectives, and build consensus so that we can ensure that this new program will be responsive to the needs of both our students and broader community, " Dr. Lotilla said.
A key part of the meeting was the presentation of the BSIT program proposal by Dr. Jelly L. Paredes, chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) program.
Dr. Paredes discussed that the proposed offering of the BSIT program aims to address an educational gap by providing students with comprehensive training in software development, networking, systems administration, and IT project management. It also seeks to contribute to the regional development goals of Capiz by fostering a skilled workforce capable of supporting local innovation and economic growth.
The said program is also grounded on the policy network and standards set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) through CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 25, series of 2015, entitled "Policies, Standards, and Guidelines for the Bachelor of Science In Information Technology (BSIT) Program."
Meanwhile, an open forum followed, engaging representatives from various sectors including industry, local government units, alumni, stakeholders, parents, and students.
These groups were invited to share insights, raise concerns, and express support for the program, ensuring that the initiative reflects a holistic perspective from the community it seeks to serve.
Prof. Virginia J. Magbanua, quality assurance chairperson and college secretary, delivered the closing remarks, emphasizing the importance of inclusive decision-making in the establishment of new academic programs.
The proposed BSIT program aims to equip students with practical and theoretical knowledge in the field of information technology, aligning with current job market trends and technological advancements.
