After waiting for 10 years, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science has finally turned out a class valedictorian.
Arjay A. Bayot, graduating cum laude, topped the class of 2025 composed of 228 graduates across four curricular programs of CAPSU Mambusao.
Bayot is one of the three Latin honor recipients, alongside Nikki L. Lopez from Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (BSFT) and Jemart P. Oquendo, also from BSCS.
As class valedictorian, Bayot had the privilege to deliver his speech of gratitude at this year’s recognition ceremonies anchored on the theme, “One CAPSU: Working Together, Growing Stronger, Reaching Higher,” June 13.
The program commenced with a solemn processional, participated in by graduating students, non-graduating academic and non-academic awardees, parents and guardians, faculty and staff, and key administrative officials of CAPSU.
College Director Dr. Ramy Lloyd L. Lotilla welcomed the attendees and acknowledged the students’ dedication and discipline. He emphasized that success is not solely based on brilliance, but also grounded in humility, commitment, and perseverance.
“To our academic and special awardees, your success is the result of late nights, focused discipline, and determination. Today we honor, not just your brilliance but your commitment, humility, and your courage to go beyond what is expected. You have set the bar of excellence, and we applaud you,” Dr. Lotilla said.
He also added, “This moment marks not just the end of your academic journey, but the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities, responsibilities, and limitless possibilities.”
Meanwhile in his message, University President Dr. Efren L. Linan underscored the collective nature of achievement. Citing an African Proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. But if you want to go far, go together,” he reminded students that the recognition they receive is also a reflection of the support they received from their peers, mentors, and families.
“Today, we gather not just to honor excellence but to reflect on what makes it possible. Recognition day is a moment to remember that behind every medal, every certificate, and every honor is a story. Not only of personal but also of community, of mentorship, and of unity,” Dr. Linan added.
Dr. Linan also urged the graduates to remain grounded and to acknowledge those who helped them along the way.
“As you rise, lift others with you. Remember your classmates who shared their foods, remember your classmates nga naghambal… nagtapik sa abaga mo, ‘Okay ka pa?’ After several struggles and obstacles, remember your classmates nga nagbulig, that’s why you have achieved your dreams. Remember you parents who sacrificed for you. Aton nga ginikanan, aton nga guardians, nga kon Lunes nagakarakasa bugtaw para maghimos para kaninyo tanan kay si Inday, si Toto, si Nene maadto sa eskwelahan,” he expressed.
Dr. Annalie G. Campos, Vice President for Academic Affairs, graced the occasion as inspirational speaker. She shared her personal journey and encouraged students to believe in their dreams, honor their roots, and remain committed to service. She emphasized that academic excellence must translate into meaningful contributions to the community.
“This is your time. Believe in your dreams, serve with purpose, love your roots, and most of all honor your parents, and never forget that God sees your struggles even no one else does yet your journey continues with courage, humility, and service. Your excellence not to elevate yourselves, but to extend a hand to others. That is the legacy we hope to think in every CAPSU student. One day, you will be the one standing here on stage, telling your own story,” Dr. Campos emphasized.
Dr. Campos also encouraged everyone to keep striving for excellence, unity, and continuous growth.
“May you continue to shine brightly. May we all continue to work together, grow stronger, and reach higher,” she added.
Following her speech, Dr. Campos was awarded a plaque of appreciation.
The program continued with the awarding of medals and certificates to academic and non-academic awardees, both graduating and non-graduating students.
A symbolic pinning of ribbons to graduates and their parents or guardians was also held to signify the completion of their academic journey.
Moreover, class valedictorian Bayot addressed his peers in a reflective speech that highlighted perseverance and self-discovery.
“There’s one piece of advice a friend once told me and that is, when you are trying to solve a problem no matter the size, you’ll need to always remember this: ‘Baby Steps’ but what does that mean? It’s simple, and it changed how I looked at life. Because when the path ahead feels too big, too uncertain, too overwhelming, just take one step at a time. Even if it’s shaky or even if it’s small, because one step leads to another, and that’s how we move forward,” he highlighted.
Bayot also encouraged his fellow graduates to redefine success on their own terms, emphasizing the importance of personal growth over societal expectations.
“The joy is in the journey, not just the ending. So don’t waste your life chasing something just because everyone says it’s what you should want. Chase what sets your soul on fire. Chase what makes you feel alive. If you got time to fantasize about your beautiful end, why not live beautifully till the end,” he concluded.
The ceremonies formally concluded with the turnover and acceptance of donations, led by Senior Class Organization President Ma. Aila L. Facsoy from the Bachelor of Science in Office Administration, who donated 214 monobloc chairs to be used in the school's gymnasium for every program.
This was followed by the closing remarks from Dr. Lalaine E. Ricardo, Student Affairs and Services chairperson.
“The success of our students reflects how the CAPSU community adheres to the call for quality service and quality education for all,” Dr. Ricardo highlighted.
It is notable that the last class valedictorian from BSCS was Dezalen O. Villeza in 2015, marking a decade-long gap.
The event marked a significant institutional milestone in acknowledging academic efforts, service, and collaboration across the CAPSU community, in alignment with its theme of unity and growth.
