NEWS: AI in Focus: BSCS faculty, students dive into cutting-edge talks

MAMBUSAO, Capiz - Selected faculty and students from the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) program of Capiz State University (CAPSU) - Mambusao Satellite College took part in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Fest 2025 on August 13 at the Iloilo Convention Center, Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
The event gathered industry experts, government agencies, and academic institutions to explore AI’s transformative role in business, industry, and innovation.
The plenary session, themed “Harnessing AI for Business and Industry,” opened with discussions on AI and Intellectual Property.
Engr. Chamlette D. Garcia of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) tackled patents, while Atty. Louie Andrew C. Calvario addressed copyrights and related rights.
Highlighting AI’s regional impact, Mr. Elmer C. Peramo of the Department of Science and Technology’s Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) presented “ACABAI-PH: Building an Inclusive AI Ecosystem for the Regions,” emphasizing the role of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), MSMEs, and local government units.
Closing the plenary, Ms. Mary Rose S. Dela Cruz, CEO of Stratpoint Technologies, shared strategies for accelerating business growth through AI and digital transformation.
The mid-morning program shifted focus to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) development.
Ann Marie C. Dizon, Founding Board Member of the Philippine AI Business Association, spoke on AI-powered marketing strategies for MSME growth.
On the other hand, Mr. Cris E. Vinson of Primof Funnel Marketing Solutions discussed scaling up MSMEs with AI.
An open forum moderated by Dr. Carmelo V. Ambut of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers.
In the afternoon, Dr. Gabriel M. Salistre, Jr., President of Iloilo Science and Technology University, provided a synthesis of the discussions in the morning session.
Awards were then presented for research paper presentations, the AI Hackathon, and the SineAI competition. Key presenters included Dr. Louie F. Cervantes, Dr. Greta G. Gabinete, Engr. Sheila L. Oberio, Dr. Ma. Beth S. Concepcion, and Ms. Keithlyn Sarah B. Bernardino.
Meanwhile, West Visayas State University Irong-Irong Dance Company performed an intermission number before the event concluded with a message from Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology VI, and the exit of colors by Iloilo Science and Technology University.
Representing CAPSU Mambusao were BSCS program Chairperson Dr. Jelly L. Paredes, Prof. Cherry Joy Palomar, Prof. Anntoniete A. Fuentes, along with BSCS 4A students Jhon Kurt Tapigngan, Ralph Anthony Olano, John Paul Alayon, Paul Launio, and Jheno Magbanua. CAPSU's Director for Digitalization Dr. Rosel L. Dionio also joined the delegation.
Through its participation, CAPSU Mambusao reaffirmed its commitment to equipping students and faculty with knowledge of emerging technologies, fostering innovation, and contributing to regional development through AI-driven initiatives.
