and 5th Student Affairs and Services National Convention

Three officers of the Supreme Student Council (SSC) of Capiz State University (CAPSU)-Mambusao Satellite College took part in the 1st Outstanding Student Leaders and 5th Student Affairs and Services National Convention organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions (TRAC), Inc. Philippines, held from October 1 to 3 in Baguio City.
The delegation comprised SSC President Janela A. Ponce, Vice President Vince Christian V. Bubuli, and Senate President Marlita Mae O. Tolentino, accompanied by Student Organization and Activities Coordinator Prof. Michelle L. Espartero.
The three-day convention opened with a keynote address by Hon. Teodoro “Teddy” B. Baguilat Jr., President of Angat Kalikasan Pilipinas, who underscored the role of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) as stewards of environmental diversity and emphasized that “nature is the key to life, and humanity is part of nature.”
An open forum followed, with Baguilat along with Dr. Janice Kaylyn Lonogan, Vice President for Academic Affairs of the University of Baguio; Rhodora A. Ngolob, Vice President for Administration and Student Services of the University of the Cordilleras; and Sherwin Pumia.
The panel addressed questions from student leaders representing universities and colleges in the Philippines.
The session concluded with the presentation of Best Student Organization Projects, where participating schools—including CAPSU Pontevedra, University of Antique, Jose Rizal University, and the University of Mindanao—presented their entries highlighting student innovation and community engagement.
The second day featured a lecture from labor leader Renecio “Luke” Espiritu Jr., President of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino.
Espiritu discussed regional wage disparities, unfair labor practices, and the socio-political condition of workers. He also urged the youth to recognize their role in shaping the nation’s future.
The afternoon session showcased various competitions, including essay writing (English and Filipino), poster making (traditional and digital), photography, singing (Original Pilipino Music), and dance (duo).
The evening segment highlighted a cultural attire presentation, with delegates proudly representing their regions by wearing traditional clothing.
The final day was marked by the awarding ceremonies and the recognition of the Top 10 Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines (OSLP), where Jude Patrick Delfin from CAPSU Pontevedra Campus was among the awardees.
Meanwhile, TRAC Philippines President Rodel John Damian delivered the closing message, commending the participants for their leadership and commitment to student development.
With her participation in the convention, SSC President Ponce felt motivated to uplift her fellow students and the community by initiating meaningful conversations and taking action.
“It was a great experience actually. I was surprised with the overwhelming participation of many schools from across the country. Also, the speakers have shared many ideas. I really enjoyed despite the differences among student leaders. I really felt we were united in attaining our goal which is to uplift our fellow students and the community,” Ponce shared.
The national convention served as a venue for student leaders to exchange ideas, strengthen advocacy, and build collaboration across institutions.
Last year, CAPSU Mambusao also marked its first-ever participation in the said event, represented by Editor-in-Chief Kin F. Sabala, SSC Vice President Ma. Joan Syvel A. Ludero, SSC Senator Angelo L. Andrada, and SOA Coordinator Michelle L. Espartero.
