The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science of Capiz State University–Mambusao Satellite College successfully celebrated its 13th Computer Science Day on Tuesday, March 24, at CAPSU-Mambusao gymnasium, highlighting this year’s theme, “Empowering the Future: AI, Innovation, and Computer Science Excellence.”
The event opened with morning preliminaries, including the singing of Lupang Hinirang, followed by a prayer, Bagong Pilipinas, and the Capiz Hymn which were played on air.
Dr. Jelly L. Paredes, BSCS Coordinator, warmly welcomed students and participants with her inspiring welcome remarks.
This was followed by the message of Satellite College Director, Dr. Ramy Lloyd L. Lotilla, who officially opened the celebration.
The program kicked off with an energetic Zumba dance competition, where BSCS students from various year levels showcased their coordination, creativity, and team spirit. Team B, second years, emerged as the champion, impressing the judges with their performance.
As the morning activities continued, students were given the opportunity to expand their understanding of current trends and developments in the field through an insightful seminar.
During the seminar session, resource speaker Prof. Mell Alarik Balasbas, ME, PCpE, shared valuable insights on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and Edge Computing. He emphasized how today’s world is shifting toward AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things), where smart technologies are becoming part of everyday life.
“Traditional programming works when rules are clear, AI works when patterns are complex,” Balasbas explained. He also reminded students, “If the product is free, you are the product.” When services (like Facebook, Google, or applications) cost no money, companies often make profit by gathering, analyzing, and selling your personal data.
Encouraging future developers, he stressed the importance of continuous learning: “Teach yourself how to teach yourself. Languages, frameworks, and tools may change, but logic, problem-solving, and system design will always remain.”
To further engage the audience, he demonstrated a “Smart Classroom” system that uses sensors to automatically control lights and fans when people are detected, as well as trigger alarms in case of fire or smoke, showing how AIoT can provide real-world solutions to modern problems.
In the afternoon, the much-awaited Rampasikat Fashion Runway took center stage. Participants from different year levels confidently showcased costumes made from technology-inspired recycled materials, highlighting creativity, sustainability, and innovation.
In the Rampasikat Fashion Runway, Team D secured the 2nd Runner-up spots in both male and female categories. Team C claimed the 1st Runner-up title in the male category, while Team A earned the same award in the female category. Dominating the competition, Team B emerged as the champions in both male and female categories.
The crowd was also entertained by a lively intermission number from JP Music, whose performance energized the audience and captivated them with his mesmerizing voice.
Winners of various competitions including Coding, Quiz Bowl, Keyboarding, T-shirt Design, Photography, and Mobile Legends were also recognized and awarded during the event.
The celebration served as a reminder of how innovation, creativity, and continuous learning shape the future of computer science students, inspiring them to become future-ready professionals in the evolving digital world.
